PAC Meeting Minutes Nov 21, 2016

Woodward PAC Meeting Minutes:

Date: Nov 21, 2016 Called to order at 6:34pm

In Attendance:

Scott Plumb, Lorna Ko, Farah Dhaliwal, Sundeep Saran, Gina Mahil

Approval of last meetings minutes:

Gina motioned to approve previous minutes from Oct 24th meeting. Lorna second and all in favour – approved

Principal’s Report:

School goals to change in Sep 2017 to FESL (Framework for Enhancing Student Learning) – no longer will have general school goals but inquiry questions involving teacher input to be implemented at our school with the focus being on ongoing continued improvement.

Report cards on Dec 16 which is one week later than usual to allow teachers more time with the new format of the new reporting system, MyEdBC.

Volleyball tournament:Gr 7 played at Steveston-London on Nov 16

Outdoor Ed:will be Oct 16-19, 2017.Chocolate sales fundraising by Gr 5/6 started today.

Band Concert: will be on Thurs, Dec 8 at 9-930am.

Winter Musical ‘Once on a Housetop on Seacote’:will be on Wed, Dec 14 from 6:30-8:30pm.

Pro-D on Dec 5, 2016

Coin Drive for Families in the Community will start Nov 28-Dec 2

PAC Chair Report:

DPAC had a meeting with trustees and school board in attendance to discuss:

future of education in Richmond,

how to work together for the future of education,

possible formation of advocacy group consisting of trustee/school board/parents to find ways to involve government in supporting education,

possibility of involving corporate companies to promote education,

fast tracking seismic upgrades in Richmond by promoting Richmond’s unique geographic difference from the rest of the lower mainland.

How to get more parents involved in PAC by making parents more aware of what PAC supports and pays for within the school.

 

RDPA will pay every second year for 1-2parents to take Foodsafe.  Next available school year that will be paid will be 2017

RDPA unable to negotiate a better deal for movie license form ACF. Price firm at $375/school.  Alternative could be Criterion Films $0.55/student including streaming with the first pre-release an additional $75 and the second pre-release $175.  Criterion does not have Disney movies.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

Shake Dem Bones made a profit of $434.90.  What to do with funds (charity donation/general PAC funds) to be discussed at next meeting.

$500 to Families in the Community previously approved and to be distributed by Scott along with proceeds from coin drive.

Old Business:

Halloween Shake Dem Bones went well.  Addition of one other activity (craft?) to keep kids occupied was suggested.

New Business:

Xmas raffle: Theme to be picked by teachers by Nov 25.  Scott to send notices to parents on Nov 25 or 28. Deadline for donations Dec 7.  Baskets to be assembled evening of Dec 8 and on display before the morning of Dec 9. Tickets, 3 for $5 or $2 each, to be sold Dec 12,13 & 14.  Parent volunteers needed to sell tickets.  Sign up notice to be posted.

Santa breakfast on Dec 9.  Scott to talk to teachers to coordinate event.  Parent volunteers needed.

Teacher appreciation on Dec 15 with food donations from 7-9am.  Scott to post in newsletter.  Sign up notice to be posted.
