National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The government recently passed legislation to make September 30th a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As such, all schools in the Richmond School District will be closed on Thursday, September 30, 2021. This day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a day of quiet reflection or participation in a community event.  Schools in our district will be engaged in a variety of activities leading up to September 30th to ensure that students understand the significance of this day in our community and in our nation. Orange Shirt Day (September 30th and recognized at Woodward on September 29th) is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools. We encourage our Wildcats to wear orange shirts on September 29th.
