Welcome (back) to Woodward 2021!

Hi Woodward Families,

We are excited to welcome you to another wonderful year of learning at Woodward Elementary. We hope that you have all enjoyed your summer and found some time to recharge, relax, and have fun with your family. Many of us at Woodward spent the summer exploring our communities and our province while playing and splashing with our families. While we were enjoying our summer vacation, our custodian team and facilities staff really did a remarkable job making Woodward sparkle and shine this summer. We even have some new floors! This year, Woodward Elementary is 60 years old too!

Our district’s highest priority continues to be the health and safety of our students, families, and staff. As such, we are focused on meeting the expectations of the provincial health and safety guidelines. We will continue to share updates through email as well as through our district website and social media. Please refer to our superintendent letter (attached) from August 27 for more information. As always, you can also contact Mr. Cameron by telephone at the school or via email.

We understand there is a lot to remember and think about at the beginning of a new school year. Please read through this email for our most up-to-date information about the start of our year.

Please remember parents/guardians will not be permitted in the school without an appointment. Your child’s teacher will greet you and your child near the designated entrance for your child at the start of the school day and bring them outside to greet you at the end of the school day. Please remember to maintain physical distance from other parents and guardians waiting to pick up their children.

Our parking lot was improved this summer. Please remember to park in designated spots only and leave the drive thru/drop off lanes clear for quick drops and regular traffic.

Important Dates to Remember:

September 7th – First day of school (see schedule below)

September 8th – First full day of school for students in grade 1 - 7

September 20th – Federal Election (Woodward is a polling station)

September 23rd – Terry Fox Run

September 23rd – Meet the Staff night

September 24th – Pro-D (School closed)

September 27th – PAC Meeting

September 30th – School closed:

The government recently passed legislation to make September 30th a federal statutory holiday called the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. As such, all schools in the Richmond School District will be closed on Thursday, September 30, 2021.  This day provides an opportunity for all Canadians to recognize and commemorate the legacy of residential schools. This may present itself as a day of quiet reflection or participation in a community event.  Schools in our district will be engaged in a variety of activities leading up to September 30th to ensure that students understand the significance of this day in our community and in our nation.

Tuesday, September 7th:

  • Students entering grade 1 – 7 will be welcomed at their 2020-2021 entrance and exit doors at 9:00 a.m. They will be dismissed at 10:00 a.m.
  • Our new Kindergarten students will be welcomed by Ms. Lam, our Kindergarten teacher, at the main entrance at 10:00 a.m. Parents are invited to stay for a brief conversation with our school principal, Mr. Cameron.
