Evidence of Learning Guiding our Next Steps

What targeted actions did we take to address our school’s learning focus? This past Spring, staff met together to discuss student progress in Literacy.  Teachers met in 'class team' grade groups to discuss and review how teaching our students to have a Growth Mindset in building Literacy skills has supported our learners over time.  At these collaboration sessions, staff shared evidence of learning from a variety of students, all at different places in their understanding on the learning spectrum.
What gap or problem were these actions intended to address? Why was this particular strategy/action chosen? Our aim for meeting was to decide in which direction we would go for the coming school year. The outcome of this was to compile a list of students who continue to experience challenges in their learning in Literacy.
What does the evidence tell us so far?Gaps in the learning evident in the writing samples, as well as in the reading assessment results (student progress over time) guided us in compiling our lists of those requiring continued support.
To what extent are the actions making a difference?

Overall, student learning is progressing.  Our initial aim when we started with a focus in Literacy was to help students develop an interest, maybe even a passion for writing.  Teaching staff reveal an increase in engagement and in overall confidence for writing.

Between October 2025 and May 2026, the reading assessments also demonstrate an overall improvement in reading Fluency, Expressive, Confidence, and a marked increase in school proficiency in Decoding skills.  The attached ‘pie chart’ demonstrates overall progress across our school population.

How will we move forward accordingly?

Our aim is to continue to utilize all the ideas and methods newly adopted in the previous year.

As we look toward the 2026-27 school year, our focus will be those learners who continue to experience stretches and challenges by supporting them in building skills to help them experience new successes in their learning.
