2025-2026 School Focus
| School Learning Focus for the 2025-2026 school year | Throughout this school year, we continue with a focus on having a Growth Mindset, specifically in how it can support in improving outcomes in Literacy. We look forward to sharing continued growth with you in our Action and Evidence Posts throughout the 2025-2026 school year! |
| Evidence-Informed Rationale (WHY) | Our student survey in March 2024 highlighted where students were feeling unsure in the learning, with an emphasis on the area of literacy. From the data pulled from the survey results, students were telling us that they need confidence-building strategies to feel that they can get through their challenges and work towards greater success. As a staff, we decided that a focus or inquiry around developing a Growth Mindset (versus a fixed mindset), particularly in Literacy, would be a supporting 'next step' in our school learning journey. |
| Priority Learners | As we continue this journey of learning, our specific focus is on our ELL population at Woodward, with an emphasis on building capacity for our level 1 and 2 students. |
| Baseline Data | Two whole school reading assessments will be conducted this school year: October and April/May. It is hoped that the Spring assessment will demonstrates any progress seen from the baseline data collected in October. |
| Action Statement (HOW) | Teachers will collaborate in grade group and class teams regularly throughout the school year to discuss writing and reading strategies. Follow up collaboration will determine success in the learning and ‘next steps’. |
| Intended Impact (SO WHAT) | A collective hope among staff is that students will grow a love for literacy: to enjoy the process of creativity in writing, and to engage more fully in regular reading. By growing confidence in learning (Growth Mindset) the hope is that students can enjoy the work in Literacy more fully. |
| Evidence of Impact (HOW WE WILL KNOW) | Data derived from our reading assessments will show where students may be improving and where there may be gaps. Teachers continue to monitor progress in student work in class, particularly in reading and writing circles and individual conferences. |
| Alignment Statement | Our School Learning Story focus aligns with the 2026-2030 Richmond District Strategic Plan. Strategic Priority 1, Objective 1 states: Improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all learners to support success in all areas of the kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum. |
