Woodward Courtyard Mural
Grade 6/7 students from division one came together with our grade ¾ teacher, Mrs. Leung, and local artists, Danny and Hilda Chen, to create a mural in our inner courtyard.
Our intermediate students brainstormed and collaborated with their teacher, Mr. Loewen, to think of the values, traits, and emotions connected to being students at Woodward Elementary. First individually and then in small groups, students created images, collages, and paintings that represent those values and emotions. As a class, they chose three themes to paint in our mural.
Danny and Hilda visited our school regularly for 6 weeks to guide and support our student artists. Together they created a mini-masterpiece that can be enjoyed from our library, multipurpose room, sunflower room, and intermediate hallway.
We believe this mural encapsulates the spirit and values of our school. This mural also demonstrates how our senior students have grown in their SEL learning through the conversations and work they had for this project. The themes of this mural also represent our SEL journey and the self-management, self-reflection, and self-regulation skills we learned as a school.
Thank you, Wildcats! Thank you, Mrs. Leung and MR. Loewen! Thank you, Danny and Hilda (https://chensgallery.com/)!
