Collaboration and the Writing Continuum
| An action that we have taken to support our school’s learning focus is: | Staff met in November for a first in a series of three collaboration days this year. The purpose of the day was to come together to share writing resources, methods and activities that are working in the classroom, as well as to explore ideas and methods worth trying with students. Teachers are meeting once again in January for our second collaboration day and will look at what we call ‘the writing continuum’. This names what is considered proficient in writing in at each grade level. |
| This action supports our school’s learning focus in the following ways: | Our primary ‘school learning story’ goal is increasing engagement in writing through practicing having a growth mindset. Teachers are exploring ways to grow student engagement in literacy, skill development, and a love for writing. By reviewing the continuum together, staff will discuss levels of proficiency in writing that students need as they advance to a next grade and in order to actively engage in writing activities.
